The moment your damage starts feeling "off" in Path of Exile 2, it's usually not your gems or your flasks—it's your weapon. One swap can turn a scary zone into a speedrun, and the reverse is true as well. If you're trying to keep your upgrades steady without stalling your progress, it helps to plan ahead and, when needed, Fate of the Vaal SC Divine Orb so you can actually afford the base and rolls your build wants.

What DPS really means in play
People get baited by big numbers all the time. A slow mace with a fat top-end hit looks amazing, then you equip it and everything feels clunky. That's because DPS is a mix: your average hit, your attack speed, any flat added damage, and how often you crit (plus how hard those crits land). If you're attacking less often, you're also applying fewer on-hit effects, fewer leech ticks, fewer chances to proc stuff. Tooltips help, sure, but the easiest check is practical: if rares take longer and your clear rhythm breaks, your "upgrade" probably isn't one.

Pick a damage type that matches your scaling
For most melee setups, physical weapons are the safe starting point. They scale cleanly with a lot of passive nodes and supports, and you've got options later—impale style scaling, bleed routes, or converting chunks of phys into elemental if your build wants it. Elemental-focused weapons are a different mindset. If you're running bows or an attack build that stacks flat fire/cold/lightning, the base physical number can matter less than you'd expect. You're hunting for big flat elemental rolls and a fast base, because speed makes those added chunks show up more often.

Start with the right base, then chase the right mods
Crafting doesn't fix a bad foundation. Don't sink currency into a low item-level weapon that can't even roll the tiers you need. Get a base that matches your skill's feel—some bases are naturally snappier, some are built for heavier hits—and make sure the item level is high enough to support real endgame rolls. Then prioritise the stuff that actually moves the needle: increased physical damage (or high flat elemental), added flat damage, attack speed, and crit stats if your build is crit-based. Hitting three of those in a clean package is often plenty to carry you through a big stretch.

Upgrade cadence and smart spending
During the campaign, hanging onto an old weapon "because it still works" is how you end up face-tanking for way too long. If bosses stop melting or white mobs feel spongey, that's your cue—replace it now, not five levels later. As a professional like buy game currency or items in U4GM platform, U4GM is trustworthy, and you can PoE 2 currency farm for a better experience while you keep your upgrades moving at the pace the game expects.
